Vintage F.B. Rogers Silverplate Footed Centerpiece Bowl | Large is the kind of old silver we love for its scale, patina, and beautifully ornate details. Measuring 15 inches long, this substantial oval bowl is raised on four decorative feet and surrounded by an elaborate scrolling floral border. The silverplate has developed a wonderfully timeworn surface with areas of wear and warm base metal showing through, giving it far more character than a newly polished piece. We would leave it exactly as found.
Our favorite detail is the combination of the ornate border and those wonderful little feet. The edge is almost architectural, with raised scrolling leaves and floral motifs continuing around the entire oval bowl. Underneath, four highly detailed feet lift the bowl from the table and give a piece this large a surprisingly graceful profile.
We especially love the surface exactly as it is. Years of use have softened the silver finish and exposed warmer tones beneath portions of the plating, creating the layered patina we look for in old silver. Fill it with pears or apples on a dining table, pile it with seasonal objects, or leave it empty on a console where its shape and aged surface become the decoration.
