Vintage Silverplate Footed Bowl | Large Fluted Serving Bowl has the kind of sculptural shape that makes old silver so easy to mix into a collected home. Deeply fluted sides rise from a substantial pedestal base to a softly scalloped, almost petal-like rim. The aged silver surface has plenty of patina and evidence of use, which we think only makes it better. We would fill it with fruit on a kitchen island, use it for entertaining, or leave it empty as a beautiful old silver centerpiece.
Our favorite detail is the rim. Each raised rib continues upward into a gently shaped edge, giving the bowl a wonderful flower-like form when viewed from above. It feels decorative without being fussy, and the substantial pedestal base gives the entire piece a beautiful presence on a table.
We especially love old silver when it isn't polished to perfection. The existing patina softens the shine and makes this piece easy to layer with old wood, pottery, stoneware, or woven pieces. Leave it exactly as found for a more timeworn look or polish it according to preference. Either way, this is the kind of useful vintage piece we would keep out rather than put away.
