This antique black transferware covered vegetable dish is a beautiful survivor, decorated in the Monastery pattern with detailed architectural landscapes, pastoral scenes, grazing and resting cattle, trees and water. The elaborate black transfer decoration continues across the footed base and fitted lid, surrounded by dense floral borders and molded details. Nearly two centuries of age have left their mark through crazing, staining and old repairs, yet the beauty and presence of this early piece remain. We especially love it displayed with the lid slightly open to reveal the pastoral scene hidden inside.
