These antique ironstone pots were found throughout France and England, where small stoneware and ironstone vessels were commonly used for cream, preserves, condiments, butter, and other household foods during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Their simple forms, creamy white glazes, and honest wear have made them favorites among collectors and interior designers alike.
Unlike modern reproductions, each vessel carries the subtle evidence of decades of everyday use. Soft discoloration, age-darkened crazing, kiln variations, worn rims, and gentle imperfections tell the story of their working lives and give every piece its own personality. These characteristics are celebrated by collectors because they cannot be recreated artificially.
Today these petite crocks are wonderfully versatile.
