What really won us over, though, is that the original French paper label is still attached. We love finding pieces with these little details intact because they add another layer to the story.

This vintage French escargot dish dates to the midcentury and was hand selected by us in France. Its triangular shape holds six rounded wells traditionally used to cradle individual escargots while baking and serving. The little opening at the end makes the dish easy to hang when not in use, which only adds to its old French kitchen charm.
The pottery itself is what we love about handmade stoneware. The warm, earthy glaze isn't perfectly uniform, and subtle variations across the surface give the piece a much softer, more interesting look than something factory made. It's simple, useful pottery with plenty of personality.
And then there's that original paper label. We're always happy when something like this has somehow survived along with the piece. It gives us another small glimpse into where the dish came from and makes an already charming French find feel that much more special.
Of course, you don't have to be serving escargot to enjoy it. We think it would be great for keeping a half dozen eggs on the counter or simply propped on an open kitchen shelf among old cutting boards, ironstone, and other pottery. At only 6.5 inches long, it's an easy little piece to tuck into a collection without taking up much room.
