These vintage sterling silver coasters date to the midcentury and each one is stamped Crown Sterling. The sterling rims have a subtle decorative border surrounding thick glass inserts with a wonderful pressed starburst design. We especially like the combination. The silver gives them a little polish, while the patterned glass keeps them from feeling too precious.
And they're far too useful to save only for special occasions. Put them out with cocktail glasses when entertaining, use them every day under water glasses, or give them a completely different purpose beneath a candle or small vase. We could even see one sitting on a bedside table as a pretty little place to drop rings at the end of the day.
The sterling has the soft patina and light signs of age we look for in vintage silver, but the set has been beautifully preserved. There are no large dimples to the sterling and no chips or cracks to the glass. We wouldn't over-polish these either. A little age against the clear patterned glass is part of what makes them so appealing.
