Vintage Brass Tazza | Neoclassical Pedestal Compote Bowl

Vintage Brass Compote | Neoclassic Tazza Pedestal Bowl is one of those pieces where we wouldn't change a thing about the finish. The brass has developed a deep, dark patina with wonderful areas of verdigris that give the bowl so much depth and character. Add the raised pedestal and beautifully detailed figural sea monster handles, and it becomes much more than a simple bowl. It feels like a small piece of sculpture.

Perfect For:

  • Creating a centerpiece on a dining or entry table
  • Holding seasonal fruit, dried botanicals, or collected objects
  • Adding height and sculptural interest to a console or bookshelf
  • Displaying simply as a decorative object

Style It With:
Pair this vintage brass compote with pieces from our Vintage Bowls collection and mix it with finds from our Vintage Table Decor & Styling Accents collection for a layered, collected display.

This vintage brass compote dates to the midcentury and takes its form from the classical tazza, a shallow bowl or dish raised on a pedestal and used for centuries as both a serving and decorative piece. The neoclassical influence gives this one a timeless quality, but it's those wonderfully detailed figural handles that really caught our attention.

And then there's the finish. The brass has been left exactly as we found it, with a heavy dark patina and areas of naturally developed verdigris across the surface. We love old brass this way. The changing tones soften the metal and highlight all those little details, giving the piece a richness that simply wouldn't be there if it were polished back to bright brass.

It's also surprisingly easy to use. Fill the bowl with fruit on a dining table, add dried botanicals or seasonal finds, or use it to hold a collection of small objects. We also think it's beautiful completely empty. With the pedestal, figural handles, and aged surface, there's already plenty going on without needing to add a thing.

We would mix this with old books, stoneware, marble, dark wood, or antique silver and let the contrast do the work. It has enough presence for a traditional or neoclassical room but feels equally good mixed into a more relaxed, eclectic, or collected interior.

  • Sourcing: hand selected for its sculptural form, detailed handles, and incredible as-found patina

Only one available. Once sold, this exact vintage brass compote cannot be replaced. For us, it's the combination of that classical shape and imperfect, timeworn finish that makes this one so good. It's decorative enough to stand completely on its own and only gets more interesting the closer you look.

Please Note: The dark patina and verdigris are part of the as-found vintage finish and have intentionally not been polished or removed. Due to the vintage and antique nature of our items, all sales are final. Please carefully review all photographs, read the complete description, and verify measurements before purchasing. Wear, patina, verdigris, repairs, and imperfections are disclosed to the best of our ability and are part of the character of antique and vintage goods.
