Vintage French Copper Planter | Hand Hammered Oval Jardiniere
Vintage Copper Planter With Handles | Oval Hammered Jardiniere is the kind of old French vessel we love finding because the details tell you so much about how it was made. The oval shape is formed from copper with a visible dovetailed side seam, rolled edge, horizontal banding, hand-hammered details, and simple ring handles. Add in that beautifully aged copper patina and you have a piece that feels special without being too precious to actually use.
Perfect For:
- Holding a small potted plant or herbs
- Creating a centerpiece with seasonal flowers or greenery
- Using as a decorative vessel on a table, console, or shelf
- Adding warm, aged copper to a kitchen or collected interior
Style It With:
Pair this vintage French copper planter with pieces from our Vintage Vases, Vessels & Antique Pots collection and mix it with finds from our Vintage Garden Decor collection for an easy, collected look.
This vintage French copper planter dates to the early to mid 1900s and has so many of the handmade details we look for in old copper. The dovetailed side seam is especially wonderful, along with the rolled rim, horizontal bands, hammered surface, and ring handles at either end. Together, they give this little jardiniere a lot of character.
And then there's the copper itself. Decades of age have softened the surface and created the warm color variations and patina that make old copper so beautiful. We prefer pieces like this left with their history showing rather than polished back to looking new. The marks and variations are part of what make this one of a kind.
At just over 10 inches long, it's a really useful size for decorating. Add a small potted plant, fill it with herbs on a kitchen windowsill, or use it for a loose arrangement of flowers or seasonal greenery. We also think it's beautiful completely empty, especially mixed with old pottery, ironstone, wood, or silver where the warmth of the copper really stands out.
